Liverpool fans urge club to buy Alfie Mawson after he scores against them

Swansea City defender Alfie Mawson scored the winning goal in his side’s shock 1-0 victory against Liverpool at the Liberty Stadium on Monday night, and Reds fans have urged their club to sign the 24-year-old.

The Merseyside outfit were expected to pick up all three points in south Wales having beaten runaway Premier League leaders Manchester City previously and with their opponents at the bottom of the table, but Mawson’s finish proved to be the difference between the two teams.

The Sun reported at the end of December that the former Barnsley man could cost any potential suitor £40m if they want him this month, and according to WhoScored.com he has won 75 aerial duels and made 149 clearances in 24 top flight matches for Swansea this season to show his defensive abilities.

Liverpool supporters were quick to have their say on his display via social media, and while one simply said “sign Mawson”, another said “sign Mawson to play alongside VVD”.
