Liverpool fans urge club to hijack Chelsea’s move for Olivier Giroud

According to reports in the Daily Mail, Chelsea are lining up a late January swoop for Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud, who has scored 105 goals in 252 matches for the Gunners, and Liverpool fans have urged their club to hijack any move.

Blues boss Antonio Conte is desperate to add a new target man to his squad before the January transfer window slams shut on Wednesday, and the 6ft 4in France international certainly fits the bill.

The 31-year-old is set to fall further down the pecking order at the Emirates if the Gunners sign Borussia Dortmund centre-forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang before the end of the month, and he is likely to leave the north London outfit in search of more regular playing time.

Meanwhile, Reds striker Daniel Sturridge is on the verge of joining West Bromwich Albion on loan, which could leave the Merseyside outfit a little short of options up top.

That is something Liverpool supporters seem to agree with given their comments about Giroud via social media, and while one said “I’d have him at Liverpool in a heartbeat”, another said “he would suit our style of play very well”.

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
