Liverpool fans urge club to move for Mahrez after Manchester City walk away

Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez has been one of the dominant names in the gossip pages during transfer deadline day.

In fact, the Algerian international has been linked to numerous big-name clubs in the last few weeks.

According to BBC Sport, the 2015-16 PFA Player of the Year handed in a transfer request after Manchester City lodged a £50m bid for the creative star.

It appears, though, that the Foxes have stood firm and refused to accept City’s advances.

The Mirror claims that the former Premier League champions demanded a player-plus-cash deal that would have amounted to an outrageous figure of £95m.

Much like they did in the Alexis Sanchez transfer saga, City decided to walk away from a potential deal for Mahrez.

With hours still left in the transfer window, it is unclear whether the playmaker will earn a move elsewhere or have to be reintegrated into the team at Leicester, who are taking on Everton in the Premier League this evening.

Liverpool fans have suggested that manager Jurgen Klopp should make a move for the wantaway star.

The club are yet to replace Philippe Coutinho, who signed for Barcelona earlier this month, and even though Klopp has publicly suggested that there will be no more incomings before the deadline, the supporters want Mahrez on board.
