Many Liverpool fans would have hoped that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain would be fighting fit come winter time following his damaging injury blow in April.
The midfielder damaged ligaments in his knee during the first leg of the Reds’ Champions League semi-final against Roma.
The severity of the injury meant that Oxlade-Chamberlain missed the remainder of the season, as well as England’s World Cup campaign in Russia.
Liverpool had been relatively quiet with regards to the 24-year-old’s timeline of recovery until now.
On Wednesday, manager Jurgen Klopp revealed to the media that Oxlade-Chamberlain is unlikely to play at all during the 2018-19 season.
The club and midfielder were already aware of this at the time of the injury, but the England international did not want the news to distract the team during the closing stages of the season.
This update has sparked some fans into calling for a replacement, with many hopeful that Lyon playmaker Nabil Fekir will head to Anfield following weeks of back and forth.
Groups of Liverpool supporters reacted to Oxlade-Chamberlain’s news on Reddit.
