Xherdan Shaqiri has had to bide his time since joining Liverpool from Stoke City in the summer.

The attack-minded star would have already been aware that he has to fight for his place in the team, and he has done just that.

On Wednesday night, manager Jurgen Klopp named Shaqiri as his No.10 for the visit of Champions League opponents Red Star Belgrade to Anfield.

The Switzerland international, who had only made seven appearances in all competitions prior to the clash, joined a midfield of Georginio Wijnaldum and Fabinho.

Shaqiri's positioning allowed him to roam and feed balls into the front three of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

The 27-year-old created the assist for Salah's first goal and Liverpool's second of the night, and he also received a standing ovation from the fans when he was substituted in the 68th minute.
