James Milner turned in a man of the match performance during Liverpool’s 4-0 battering of West Ham United on Sunday.
Despite the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino playing scintillating football up front, and Alisson Becker, Xherdan Shaqiri and Naby Keita all making their club debuts, Milner was still able to stand out amongst his illustrious colleagues.
At 32-years-old, Milner’s energy levels and work rate remain as high as ever, and his versatility and commitment to the cause makes him an invaluable asset to Jurgen Klopp.
The Englishman will have his work cut out to remain a first team starter at Anfield, where the competition for places this season is intense. If he can maintain his performance level from Sunday week in week out though, then he’ll be simply undroppable.
Liverpool fans certainly value Milner and appreciate his importance to their team. Many Reds supporters took to Twitter in the aftermath of the opening game victory to single the veteran out for praise…
