Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will sit down with defender Mamadou Sakho for crunch discussions surrounding the player’s future on Merseyside when the German returns from the club’s pre-season tour of America, according to reports from the Mirror.
The Reds’ French centre-back made headlines on Tuesday when it emerged that he’d been sent home from the club’s training camp in California amid concerns about his attitude around the camp.
Although there’s a chance that his journey back to Liverpool is a result of a need to step up his rehabilitation from an Achilles injury, the fact that other players recovering from knocks and strains have stayed Stateside is a concern for the player.
And reports now claim that Sakho and Klopp are set to talk about his future at the club when both are back at Melwood.
The 26-year-old ex-Paris Saint-Germain ace is considered to be a fans’ favourite at Anfield given his infectious personality and committed playing style, while it’s also thought that he’s popular in the squad for the same reasons.
However, Klopp has acted ruthlessly as he asserts his authority at the club.
Sakho has been out of action for some time amid a doping saga that saw him suspended for the Europa League Final, which resulted in him missing EURO 2016.
