Liverpool and Manchester United are both plotting a swoop for PSV Eindhoven winger Steven Bergjwin, according to De Telegraaf.

What's the word?

Sitting joint-top of the Premier League alongside Manchester City and Chelsea after eight matches, Liverpool have started the season in impressive form under Jurgen Klopp and a fight for the title lies ahead.

The Reds boast one of the world's most devastating attacking quotas with Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Xherdan Shaqiri to choose from but Klopp is eyeing another addition in the form of PSV Eindhoven's Steven Bergwijn, according to De Telegraaf.

Liverpool sent scouts to watch the attacker during PSV's Champions League defeat to Inter Milan and face competition in the market from arch-rivals Manchester United, who also had representatives in attendance for that match.

A good deal?

Wing-wizard Bergwijn has caught the eye this season with four goals in ten appearances but perhaps didn't make such a positive impression on his international debut for the Netherlands in their 3-0 victory over Germany last week.

While it would be difficult to imagine Bergwijn becoming a first-team regular immediately upon his arrival at Anfield, he would fight the likes of Mane, Shaqiri and Salah for opportunities, further increasing the depth at Klopp's disposal.

At just 21 years of age, Bergwijn would be considered to be a signing for a future and could cement a regular spot in Liverpool's attack in future campaigns, but PSV would likely seek significantly more than his £18m valuation on Transfermarkt.
