It’s been a troubled campaign for Mario Balotelli since moving to Liverpool from AC Milan for a £16million fee during the summer. The Italy international had scored just twice in 18 appearances across all competitions and had seen over eleven hours of Premier League football pass without netting for the Reds.
That is until today, of course, with the 24-year-old breaking his top flight hoodoo with an excitingly late goal against Tottenham Hotspur.
In a fantastic match between the Premier League’s two most in-form sides, the scores were level at 2-2 as Balotelli came on for Daniel Sturridge with around 15 minutes remaining. Less than ten minutes later, he popped up in Tottenham’s penalty box to produce the decisive strike:
That goal proved to be huge for Liverpool as it gave them the win over close-rivals Tottenham, putting them just a point behind the visitors in the Premier League table and firmly a part of the division’s top four race. Whether it’s enough to affirm Balotelli’s future beyond the summer however, remains to be seen.
