Liverpool free to land major summer target next year for bargain sub-£10m fee

Liverpool could revive their interest in Borussia Monchengladbach’s Mahmoud Dahoud next summer with Bild claiming that a release clause of just €10m (£8.6m) will come into force in 12 months’ time.

The Reds were heavily aligned with the 20-year-old midfielder before their move for Georginio Wijnaldum, with Jurgen Klopp thought to be a big fan of the youngster.

However, Gladbach were reluctant to sell after losing Granit Xhaka and Havard Nordtveit to Arsenal and West Ham respectively, although their hand may be forced next summer.

Indeed reports claim that within Dahoud’s current contract there’s a release clause of just £8.6m that will come into action in 2017’s off-season, which could allow the Reds to get their man for well below the €30m (£25.7m) Klopp was willing to pay this year.

However, it’s hard to see Liverpool being alone in the race for a player of the starlet’s quality for such a fee, so their ability to attract him may rely on Champions League qualification over the coming campaign.
