Liverpool are set to table a new bid for Sporting Lisbon attacking midfielder Bruno Fernandes, per Correio da Manhã via Sport Witness.

What’s the word?

The Reds have been linked with a move for the Portugal international, who enjoyed a spectacular season at the Portuguese club in 2018/19.

He scored 32 goals in all competitions and registered a total of 18 assists.

And the Reds are said to hold an advantage over other clubs – both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have been linked, per the report – with Rafael Camacho a potential option in part exchange.

The report states that Sporting have been trying to sign the 19-year-old for months and that he could now be included in a deal that would see Fernandes move to Anfield.

Liverpool have reportedly tabled a bid worth €45m (£40.3m), with Sporting demanding a figure of €70m (£62.6m).

A new offer, however, could be tabled in the next week, with Camacho likely to be included as part of the bid.

Klopp’s secret weapon

Camacho is not of much use to Liverpool right now.

He is clearly a talented young player; he’s a 19-year-old right midfielder and has been capped at various youth levels by Portugal.

However, he’s made just two appearances for the Reds, playing a single minute in a 4-3 win over Crystal Palace in the Premier League and the 90 in the 2-1 FA Cup defeat to Wolves. In the latter, he was deployed as a right-back.

The teenager is unlikely to make his way into the first-team anytime soon, however, with Trent Alexander-Arnold ahead of him in the pecking order under Jurgen Klopp.

The option of offering him to Sporting as part of a deal for Fernandes, then, makes all the sense in the world for the Reds as they look to secure their first senior signing of the summer.
