Liverpool have already agreed a deal to snap up Joel Matip on a free transfer this summer, according to reports from Corriere dello Sport.
The Reds endured a disappointing January transfer window in which major target Alex Teixeira evaded their grasp, leaving them with only Steven Caulker as a proper option – Marko Grujic has been loaned back to Red Star Belgrade.
Among a host of links through the month, Schalke’s Matip was a name that cropped up, with reports having claimed that he is a target for the end of the season, when his contract in Gelsenkirchen expires.
And now Corriere dello Sport (below) have suggested that a deal is done, which has prompted a host of Italian clubs, including Juventus, to end their pursuit of the athletic Cameroonian.
Matip is a central defender, but is able to play at full-back or in defensive midfield and is a player Jurgen Klopp knows well from his time working in the Bundesliga.
