Liverpool idol John Barnes believes that Daniel Sturridge is the perfect striker for Jurgen Klopp’s set-up.
The Reds are currently short of attacking options with summer signing Danny Ings having been ruled out for around six months with a serious knee injury, while another addition from the last window, Christian Benteke, is still sidelined after missing the Merseyside derby and Belgium’s recent EURO 2016 qualifiers.
Klopp is yet to take charge of a competitive match at the helm of the Anfield giants, but many have already speculated about how he may opt to use his forwards on Merseyside.
The powerful Robert Lewandowski was the focal point of his successful Dortmund side, and with the Polish star’s approach not dissimilar to that of Benteke, it’s been mooted that Sturridge may have to move into a wider role to stay in the XI.
However, TitanBet brand ambassador, and Kop idol, Barnes believes that he’s perfectly suited to how Klopp likes to play:
“He [Klopp] likes fast players, he likes to counter-attack quickly,”
“Two years ago [Liverpool] had Suarez, Sturridge, Sterling and Coutinho, that’s what they did, and that’s how he likes to play.
“If you think about Lewandowski and Reus at Dortmund that’s the way they played.
“He [Klopp] will be a little more direct than Rodgers, not in terms of long balls but more counter attacking rather than playing a slower, more methodical game, and I think Sturridge will suit that down to the ground.
“But importantly they need to keep Sturridge fit.”
