Liverpool have “scouted” Schalke’s teenage sensation Leroy Sane in recent times ahead of the January transfer window, according to respected Liverpool Echo journalist James Pearce.
The Reds have enjoyed a mini-resurgence under the guidance of Jurgen Klopp, who took over from Brendan Rodgers in October, but despite impressive wins away at Chelsea and Manchester City, transfer speculation has been commonplace on Merseyside.
The German tactician is widely expected to look back to the Bundesliga – where he was successful with Dortmund – for potential additions, and Schalke’s Sane has been linked with a £10m move to Liverpool of late.
And while Pearce claims not to know if a deal is being lined up, he told Anfield HQ that the 19-year-old has been “scouted” by the club already:
“He’s certainly a player that Liverpool have had scouted but as it stands at the moment I’m not aware that it’s gone any further than that.”
Sane has notched four goals and four assists in BuLi action for the Gelsenkirchen side this season and is considered to be a major first-team player despite his age.
