Former Liverpool midfielder Jason McAteer believes that Adam Lallana is a perfect fit at Anfield under Brendan Rodgers.
The England international is, arguably, the most exciting of the Reds’ five summer signings so far after completing his long-awaited £23m move to Merseyside following the World Cup.
Lallana was named in the PFA Team of the Year last season on the back of his fine displays and is likely to slot into one of the three positions behind Daniel Sturridge as Liverpool plot to build on their runners-up spot from last term.
Although he is sidelined for around six weeks with a knee injury, McAteer believes that the 26-year-old will be a perfect fit in Rodgers’ XI when back in action:
“Adam is a fantastic talent. Southampton’s youth policy has been very, very good and everyone seems to be raiding them for their players which is a compliment in a way,” he is quoted by the Daily Star.
“Lallana adds longevity to Liverpool and here will be there for some time.
“He can play in various roles, he has got great feet and vision. I am looking forward to watching him play next season.
“He fits into Brendan’s plan very well.”
Lallana is one of three Southampton players to have signed for Liverpool this summer, with Rickie Lambert and Dejan Lovren having also relocated to the North West from the South Coast.
