Liverpool hero sees midfielder as a big miss in title push

Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp believes that losing Jordan Henderson for three games could have a big impact on the club’s Premier League title hopes.

The Reds will be without their hard-working star for their coming must-win fixtures, after the 23-year-old was dismissed for a reckless late challenge on Manchester City’s Samir Nasri.

The straight red card received rules him out of today’s clash with Norwich and the following two games with Chelsea and Crystal Palace.

He will return for the final 90 minutes of the season at home to Newcastle, and Redknapp feels that Liverpool will sorely miss the much-improved midfielder:

“I can’t recall a more improved player in the Barclays Premier League in the past 10 years.” He wrote in his column for the Daily Mail.

“You cannot overestimate what Henderson has brought to the team. He presses the ball high up the pitch, sacrifices himself for his team-mates and makes opponents rush; they have to play when they don’t want to because he is in and around them, chasing them down and pressuring the ball.

“He covers more ground than any Liverpool player and though he is not necessarily a tackler, he is a hassler, intercepts and forces mistakes.”

Henderson was highly criticised shortly after his big money arrival from Sunderland in 2011, but he has settled well and formed a solid partnership with Steven Gerrard in the Merseysiders’ engine room.
