It has been a while since Steven Gerrard called it a day and hung up his boots, leaving his playing days behind him.

To be more precise, the 39-year-old Liverpool legend played his last game in 2017 in the MLS, defending the colours of LA Galaxy. His last game as one of the Reds came two years prior to that.

But good friends and close teammates often stay in touch long after their careers take them down very different paths, and Ian Rush and Robbie Keane were quick to respond to the Rangers gaffer on Instagram this weekend.

Gerrard posted an

Rush was the first one to the scene and he just posted a single emoji showing his support as one former Red to another.

Keane, who played alongside the Gers boss at Anfield, replied with a rather odd message, though one would have to assume he was winding his former colleague up a little bit, considering lots of fans found the snap rather funny.

We have a feeling the trio could still form quite a five-a-side team, but who would take up the final two spots?
