Liverpool in clear to sign German saviour

Marco Reus will happily join Liverpool in January if offered a £180,000-per-week contract, according to reports from The Metro.

The Reds are rumoured to have made the Germany international their top target for the coming transfer window, with the attacker’s future at Dortmund far from clear.

Reus recently rejected a new contract offer from the Bundesliga side, who are now growing concerned that a £20m release clause due to kick in at the end of the season may see them unable to hold onto their man.

Talk of a January sale for a fee above such a sum has been doing the rounds, with reports suggesting that Liverpool lead the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and even Bayern Munich in the chase.

Brendan Rodgers invested heavily in his squad over the summer to replace Luis Suarez, but none of his additions – Mario Balotelli included – have been major success stories.

The 25-year-old is seen as the ideal man to become the Reds’ new talisman, and is widely seen as one of the very best forward players in European football.

Reds legend Jamie Carragher has also called for his addition, claiming that Reus would be the one player he’d sign if he were Liverpool’s manager in a Twitter Q&A session.
