Liverpool in surprising move for lower league hotshot

Liverpool are chasing highly rated Portsmouth youngster Conor Chaplin, according to the Daily Star.

The Reds are said to be stepping up their efforts to recruit talented youngsters, in order to groom them in to the stars of tomorrow.

Now, the 18-year old star is apparently on the radar of the Anfield outfit, having netted four times so far this term as the South Coast side challenge towards the top end of League 2.

He only made his league debut back in December as his side lost at home to Accrington Stanley, and recently signed a three-year at the club.

With Daniel Sturridge, Danny Ings and Christian Benteke available to manager Brendan Rodgers, the signing of Chaplin would presumably be with a view to the future.

The Merseyside giants completed a deal for Nigerian forward Taiwo Awoniyi on deadline day, with the young forward immediately joining German outfit FSV Frankfurt on loan.
