Liverpool invite MLS prospects to train at Melwood

As reported by the Daily Star yesterday afternoon, Liverpool have offered trials to two of hottest prospects from the MLS.

Both Sam Adekugbe and Christian Dean ply their trade with Canadian outfit Vancouver Whitecaps, currently managed by former Wolves midfielder Carl Robinson, but have been invited to train with the Reds at their Melwood training facility.

Neither are particularly experienced youngsters; Adekugbe is just 19 years of age and has thus far made just five league appearances for the Blue and White at senior level, in addition a plethora of outings for their U23 string last season.

But the 5 foot 9 defender was born in London, as were his parents, and it’s believed he would like a return to England.

Meanwhile, towering centre-back Christian Dean, measuring in at 6 foot 3, has just four league outings for Vancouver under his belt, but recent performances have lead to a spot in Team USA’s Under23 side.

Both the American youngster and Canadian U20 Adekugbe will begin training with the Merseyside outfit next week, maintaining Brendan Rodgers’ tradition of targeting untapped potential in the transfer market.

On the footballing front, Liverpool play host to Stoke City in the Premier League this afternoon – a 3pm kick-off.
