Liverpool join Man United in battle for possible Sterling replacement

Liverpool are firmly in the race for £18m-rated Brazilian ace Roberto Firmino, according to reports from Golboesporte.

The Hoffenheim star has been heavily linked with Manchester United of late, with recent speculation having revealed that the Red Devils are very much after the 23-year-old.

Firmino has notched an impressive 23 goals and 21 assists from his attacking midfield role in the Bundesliga since the start of the 2013/14 campaign, and with Liverpool’s chances of keeping Raheem Sterling in the wake of increased Manchester City interest fading, reports claim that they’re now chasing Firmino.

The South American operates in a similar role to Liverpool’s wantaway 20-year-old, and could fit in well at Anfield given that he plays alongside Philippe Coutinho at international level.

Firmino’s agent, Roger Wittmann, has already revealed that a move to England after the Copa America is on the agenda for his client, which has served to fuel speculation.
