Liverpool have joined Manchester United in the race to sign West Ham wonderkid Reece Oxford, according to reports from the Mirror.
Oxford has been heavily linked with a move away from the Boleyn Ground since last summer, with the Reds having been keen on the 17-year-old even before he starred on his Premier League debut.
The defender was given a shock start by Hammers boss Slaven Bilic against Arsenal in a defensive midfield role on the first game of the campaign, and he kept Germany international Mesut Ozil quiet in an impressive 2-0 victory at the Emirates Stadium.
Since then Liverpool have seen the likes Man United up their interest in the teenager, but Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is confident that he can lure Oxford to Anfield.
Despite his performance against the Gunners, Oxford’s appearances in the Irons’ first-team have been limited, and the youngster is hoping to sort out his future before he goes on international duty with the England U-19 squad.
Oxford has played 12 games for the senior team this past season, with only seven coming in the league.
