Liverpool join Tottenham in striker battle

Liverpool are ready to go head-to-head with Tottenham in the race for Swansea’s Wilfried Bony, according to reports from talkSPORT.

The Ivorian forward only joined the Swans last year from Vitesse Arnhem, yet rumours suggest he is ready to leave the Liberty Stadium.

Spurs are understood to have had an opening £18m offer for his services rejected, but they’re said to be ready to go back in with an improved bid to force through a swoop.

However Liverpool are now in the running, with Brendan Rodgers desperate to get a new front-man in with Luis Suarez set to leave Merseyside.

Reports suggest that the 25-goal striker’s representatives are in the North West to discuss a potential move to the Premier League runners-up, although a fee has not been agreed between the two teams.

Swansea want at least £20m for their man, which is unlikely to put Liverpool off due to the incoming £60m-£70m from Suarez’s exit.

Unlike Tottenham the Anfielders can offer Bony Champions League football, which may be a deal-breaker.
