Liverpool keen on Bayern Munich ace

Bayern Munich defender Diego ContentoLiverpool have approached Bayern Munich in an attempt to secure a loan deal for full-back Diego Contento, according to reports from The Metro.

The Reds have made a left-sided defender one of their transfer priorities ahead of the new season, with Jose Enrique currently Brendan Rodgers’ only option.

Although the Spaniard has proven himself to be a capable player since his move to Anfield from Newcastle, doubts remain over his positional sense and tactical discipline.

The Merseysiders would prefer to have another option at left-back and have seen moves for Aly Cissokho and Lorenzo Melgarejo of Valencia and Benfica respectively collapse.

Rodgers is now ready to make a concrete offer for Contento, and is hopeful that his status within Bayern’s squad may allow him to push through a deal.

The 23-year-old is currently some way down the pecking order at the Allianz Arena, with club captain Philipp Lahm and talented youngster David Alaba both able to play on the left side of the back line.

Bayern coach Pep Guardiola has told the three-time German U-20 international that he is free to leave the club, with a number of rival Bundesliga sides interested.

But, it is thought that the player himself would prefer a fresh start in a new league, making a move to Liverpool a possibility.

Liverpool fans, would Diego Contento provide the competition Jose Enrique needs?
