The German goalkeeper now plays for Bundesliga outfit Hannover, where he has been impressive.
His fine form has alerted Brendan Rodgers, who is believed to be keen to bring in a new stopper to support summer arrival Simon Mignolet.
The Belgian stopper has proved himself to be a more than adequate replacement for Pepe Reina – who left to join Napoli on loan – but doubts surround the ability of his understudy Brad Jones.
The former Middlesbrough man has looked shaky in his limited appearances for the Reds, leading to speculation that he not seen as good enough to provide the required level of competition for a starting spot.
Zieler is somebody that Rodgers feels could keep Mignolet on his toes, and is said to be ready to make a move.
The 24-year-old has a £7m release clause in his current contract, and the club’s sporting director Dirk Dufner says that he will not look to block a big move for the ‘keeper:
“I am sure that other clubs are interested in him.
“And if an offer comes in, Ron should definitely think about it. That’s part of being an intelligent player.
“If he decides to stay with us, so much the better.”
Schalke and Borussia Monchengladbach are also keen.
