Liverpool keen on Ligue 1 star to replace exit-bound player on big salary

Liverpool are eager to replace out-of-favour left-back Jose Enrique with Lorient’s impressive youngster Raphael Guerreiro, according to reports from Goal.

The Reds are expected to let their experienced Spaniard leave either this month or at the end of the season – when his £65,000-per-week contract expires – following his slide from the first-team set-up on Merseyside.

Enrique is yet to make an appearance under Jurgen Klopp – he last played almost a year ago in an FA Cup clash with Bolton – but should he exit, the club are eager to bring in a replacement to ease the burden on Alberto Moreno.

And reports claim that they’re watching Guerreiro closely, with the Portugal international having impressed in Ligue 1 of late.

The 22-year-old is a key member of Les Merlus’ senior set-up and has helped the club into a top half position in France’s equivalent of the Premier League.

Guerreiro, who can also play as a left-sided midfielder, has been capped three times at senior international level and is a player Klopp tracked while he was in charge of Dortmund.
