Liverpool keeping tabs on Feyenoord ace

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has started the search for a replacement for Jamie Carragher, and Dutch defender Stefan de Vrij seem to be in the Premier League club shortlist.

According to Daily Mail, the Reds’ boss flew to Holland on the weekend to personally scout the young captain in Feyenoord’s 2-1 victory over PSV Eindhoven.

The centre-back position is expected to be a top priority at Anfield at the next summer window, as doubts over Uruguayan defender Sebastian Coates join Jamie Carragher’s retirement on Rodger’s list of concerns.

De Vrij, currently playing his fourth season in the Eredivisie, has a contract with Feyenoord until June 2014, but his high performances are setting him to make a move at the end of the current season.

Having succeeded Ron Vlaar as the team captain by the age of 20, the now 21 yea-old defender has also progressed with his national team. After playing in the U-16 and U-17 categories, Louis Van Gaal made him make his debut with the senior national team last August.

The Dutchman could be pairing Daniel Agger in Rodgers scheme, or be a second choice should Liverpool’s boss choose Ashley Williams to match the Danish.
