Liverpool leading Man United in 16-goal sensation tussle

Liverpool are currently ahead of bitter rivals Manchester United in the battle for PSV Eindhoven’s in-form star Memphis Depay, according to reports from The Mirror.

The Netherlands international has developed into one of European football’s most talked about attacking talents this season, with his 16 Eredivisie goals – the highest tally in the division – having put his side on course to end Ajax’s recent domination of the Dutch game.

Although he signed a new contract late last year to tie himself to PSV for the long-term, the club have already confessed that the 21-year-old may be sold this summer, alerting top clubs.

United are thought to be keen – Louis van Gaal coached the winger at the World Cup in 2014 and was subsequently linked with a move for his signature – but reports suggest that Liverpool officials have been in Eindhoven of late to assess the player, and that Depay himself is keen on Anfield.

Spurs are also interested and have requested to be informed of any bids.
