According to reports from The Sun, Liverpool have moved ahead of Manchester United in the race to sign Southampton forward Sadio Mane.

Manchester United were hot on the Senegal star’s heels last summer and were linked with him frequently throughout last season amid a haul of 15 goals across all competitions.

He’s still highly-rated by the club’s scouts but fresh managerial appointment Jose Mourinho is less convinced by the scintillating speedster, which has paved the way for Liverpool to overtake the Red Devils in the race for Mane’s signature.

Anfield boss Jurgen Klopp reportedly sees the 24-year-old as the ideal signing to add width to his starting Xi and provide competition for the Reds’ current strike options, such as Danny Ings, Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi.

Consequentially, The Sun claim Liverpool are preparing a £25million bid plus add-ons for the Southampton star, with the view to making him their main signing for the summer transfer window.
