The England international looks set to make his move to Merseyside official in the next few days after travelling up from the South Coast to undergo a medical over the weekend.
Lallana has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool for some time now, but Southampton held firm despite numerous offers from Brendan Rodgers’ side.
However, upon returning from the World Cup the playmaker made it clear to the Hampshire outfit that he wanted the move, resulting in a £23m fee – which may rise depending on add-ons – being agreed.
Case – who starred for both club involved in the deal – believes that the 26-year-old will thrive at Liverpool:
“I’m more than pleased Liverpool have bought him,” he si quoted by the Liverpool Echo.
“To be honest, I have always had a suspicion they may make a move for Lallana. He is a Brendan Rodgers type of player.
“I was speaking to people around Southampton a few years ago and even then I was saying it was a wonder nobody had come in to take Lallana when the club were in a lower division.
“His creativity is excellent, but it is always within the framework of the team. He works hard and doesn’t shirk responsibility.
“Liverpool are buying themselves a tremendously gifted forward player who, for me, is going to enhance the team. That’s why Brendan is willing to spend big money on him. He knows what Lallana can offer.”
