Liverpool legend calls for captain to move

Liverpool hero John Aldridge wants to see Brendan Rodgers use Steven Gerrard behind Mario Balotelli following news that Daniel Sturridge will miss another month through injury.

The Reds striker was expected to return to the XI form Sunday’s clash with QPR after recovering from a thigh problem, but a calf injury picked up in training is likely see him miss the next seven games.

With Sturridge out, Balotelli is expected to lead the line despite his meagre one goal return since signing for the club over the summer from AC Milan.

During Liverpool’s last game – a 2-1 home win against West Brom – Gerrard was moved forward from his new deep-lying role late on, and ‘Aldo’ feels that having the skipper in that position will boost his old club’s potency in the final third:

“I reckon Stevie G to play in behind Balotelli or Lambert, Lallana and Sterling wide. Allen, Henderson midfield, might solve a monthly problem?” He Tweeted.

Gerrard has been used in a holding role since the latter stages of last season, but his lack of mobility has seen him come under fire this term.
