Liverpool lining up £20m summer bid

Henrik Mkhitaryan

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is lining a £20million bid for Armenian international Henrikh Mkhitaryn, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Rodgers sent scouts to watch the Shakhtar Donetsk playmaker on numerous occasions over the past 12 months and is finally ready to talk numbers with the player and the Ukrainian club.

The Reds are set to have a hefty transfer kitty to play with this summer due to the sales of Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez which seem to be edging nearer the finish line.

Mkhitaryn would be used in a central role with Steven Gerrard for Liverpool but the 24 year old is in no rush to leave Shakhtar after another successful season in Donetsk.

The lack of Champions League football on offer at Anfield could be an issue for any ambitious player but Mkhitaryn may not need convincing that Rodgers is moving the Merseyside club in the right direction.
