Liverpool lining up another summer freebie after Matip transfer deal

Liverpool are considering a Bosman summer move for Fenerbahce left-back Caner Erkin, according to reports from Fotomac.

The 27-year-old defender is due to be out of contract at the end of the season, and it’s understood that Reds scouts have been closely monitoring his performances.

Erkin, a 42-cap Turkey international, is known for his experience – he’s won two Super Lig titles – and reports suggest that the Merseyside club are pondering a contract offer for him

Alberto Moreno’s performances at left-back are surely a cause for concern for the club after his showing in the League Cup Final on Sunday, making the Fenerbahce man an intriguing option.

Jurgen Klopp has Jon Flanagan and Brad Smith to call upon in the role, but the former has spent much of the last 20 months injured, while the latter is inexperienced at the top level.

Erkin boasts Champions League know-how and has been a regular for Fener since joining the club in 2010.

Interestingly, he’s been playing alongside Liverpool loanee Lazar Markovic this season.

Klopp’s side have shown a willingness to take advantage of the free transfer market, with Joel Matip having agreed a pre-contract deal to join the club from Schalke this summer.
