Liverpool linked with move for former Red

Liverpool could re-sign Spanish defender Antonio Barragan this summer, according to talkSPORT.

The 26-year-old made one appearance for the Reds in 2005 during a Champions League qualifier. But after a very brief Anfield career, the Spaniard moved to Deportivo La Coruña, before eventually finding his way to current club Valencia.

Costing Valencia €1.5million in 2011, Barragan has helped the club in their fight for stop half finish in La Liga. The club are currently 9th, 5 points ahead of 11th placed Granada. His recent performances, some of which in a more attacking position have linked him with a return to Anfield, with the Reds looking to strengthen their wide options.

Jose Enrique has missed the majority of the season through a knee injury, whilst Aly Cissokho, who is on loan from Valencia, has failed to impress during his performances at left-back. Whilst in the attacking department, Raheem Sterling is considered the only true winger in the Liverpool squad.

talkSPORT claim the Reds are monitoring Barragan’s development closely, as he continues to rotate in both a defensive and attacking role. Liverpool are looking more and more likely to play Champions League football next season, with fans eyeing up a shot at the title this year. Barragan could potentially play his second Champions League fixture for Liverpool next season, should the clubs make a deal happen.
