Liverpool linked with shock move to re-sign Chelsea star

Fernando Torres (Chelsea)Liverpool are considering a surprise move to bring Chelsea striker Fernando Torres back to Anfield, according to reports from The Metro.

The Spaniard left the Reds to move to London in a £50m deal two-and-a-half years ago, and has endured a torrid time at Stamford Bridge.

Torres has struggled with the weight of expectation, and was dropped from the club’s starting XI for Monday’s clash with Manchester United

It also looks unlikely that the 29-year-old will be able to resurrect his career under new boss Jose Mourinho, who has signed Samuel Eto’o to remedy his attacking concerns.

This has alerted Liverpool chief Brendan Rodgers, who is believed to be in the market for a big name player before the transfer window closes.

It is likely that they will only offer a fraction of the fee Chelsea paid for Torres signature in 2011, but the Blues could well accept to get the flop forward off their books.

Concerns remain surrounding a potential reception he may receive from fans on Merseyside, who were angered by his decision to leave them for a rival.

However, after enjoying, arguably, the finest spell of his career at Anfield it’s possible that a reunion could be positive for all involved.

Arsenal are also monitoring the situation.

Arsene Wenger is desperate to add to his attacking ranks following Lukas Podolski’s injury and could swoop for Torres.

Liverpool fans, would you welcome Fernando Torres back to Anfield?
