Liverpool loan flop due to return to parent club after miserable Aston Villa spell

Aston Villa are set to prematurely terminate the season-long loan deal of Liverpool defender Tiago Ilori, report the Metro.

Former Villa chief Tim Sherwood splashed out £1m to bring the Portuguese to the Midlands for the year back in the summer, though he has not made a single appearance since.

Despite having the option to turn the deal into a more permanent arrangement at the end of this campaign, it is understood that new manager Remi Garde is keen to end the loan.

The 22-year old has appeared in just one matchday squad all season even though the side are rooted to the bottom of the Premier League.

Having spent last year in France with Bordeaux, the former Sporting Lisbon man is yet to make a senior league appearance with the Reds.

He signed for the Merseyside giants under former boss Brendan Rodgers as a teenager in deal thought to be worth around £7m.
