Liverpool lodge bid for Coutinho-esque transfer deal

Liverpool have made an improved £15.2m bid for Inter Milan midfielder Mateo Kovacic, according to reports from Metro.

The Croatia international has emerged as one of the Reds’ prime transfer targets in recent weeks, with the Merseysiders looking to fill the void left in their XI by Steven Gerrard’s departure.

Offers of £7.2m and £12.8m are believed to have been made already, but the Nerazzurri are believed to be holding out for a sum of closer to £17.9m.

And it seems that Liverpool are keen to reach an agreement, with reports claiming that £15.2m is on the table for Kovacic.

The 21-year-old is known for his composed passing in the centre of the pitch, but his role under Roberto Mancini is unclear amid speculation their ready to offload him to free up space for Yaya Toure.

Liverpool pulled off one of their best transfers in recent memory in January 2013 when they signed Philippe Coutinho from Inter Milan in an £8.5m deal.
