Liverpool lose another prodigy to Euro giants on free transfer, he snubbed new contract

According to reports from Sky Sports, Liverpool youngster Joao Teixeira has completed a transfer to FC Porto.

The Reds signed the attacking midfielder from Sporting Lisbon’s academy in January 2012 at a cost of £830k, at which point he was hailed as ‘the new Deco’.

The 23-year-old went on to register eight senior appearances across all competitions for the Merseyside club, including a Premier League outing last season, and claimed the club’s Young Player of the Year award in 2015.

But as reported by Sky Sports, Teixeira has rejected a contract offer from Jurgen Klopp’s side to sign for FC Porto – the club he as supported since childhood.

Because it counts as an international transfer, Liverpool will receive just £240k in compensation and Teixeira is not the only youngster to leave Anfield this summer.

Indeed, 19-year-old Jordan Rossiter, often compared to Steven Gerrard, also quit Liverpool in May to sign for Mark Warburton’s Rangers.
