Liverpool losing faith in summer signing

Brendan Rodgers is beginning to doubt Mario Balotelli’s technical ability, leaving the Italian’s Liverpool future up the air, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

The Italy international was a shock summer signing from the Reds, who swooped late to bring him back to the Premier League – he’d previously played for Manchester City – from AC Milan in a £16m deal.

Despite being dubbed the man to replace Luis Suarez’s goals, ‘Balo’ has struggled since returning to England, finding the back of the net just twice – once in the Capital One Cup and once in the Champions League.

As well as his questionable strike record, Balotelli’s all-round contribution to the team, desire and work rate have also been slammed by fans and pundits.

And now it’s emerged that Rodgers is growing frustrated with the 24-year-old, with reports claiming the Northern Irishman is yet to be convinced by his footballing ability.

Despite him being fit, Balotelli was dropped completely for last night’s League Cup win at Bournemouth, with winger Raheem Sterling chosen to lead the Reds’ line.

The 20-year-old netted twice, building on a promising showing as a lone striker at Old Trafford against Manchester United.

Rodgers is understood to have admitted privately that he’s unconvinced by ‘Super Mario’, whom he described as a “calculated risk” upon his signing during the last transfer window.
