Speaking exclusively to ESPN's Melissa Reddy, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp revealed his stance on the possibility of re-signing Philippe Coutinho.

The German boss practically ruled out the Brazilian returning to Anfield this summer, but his comments to ESPN as well as his words when speaking to Sky Sports should further worry these Liverpool supporters who were hoping to see some marquee names come through the door in this window.

Intriguingly, the Champions League winners have only made one signing since the end of last term, and even that wasn't an addition to immediately benefit the first-team - 17-year-old Sepp van den Berg is the new man.

What did Klopp say?

Speaking to ESPN, the German said: "I like Phil, I think he's a fantastic footballer and all that stuff, but it would be a big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big-money signing and it's not our year for that."

Elsewhere, when chatting to Sky Sports regarding transfers, he said: "Sometimes you have to calm the situation down, pay your bills, have a normal life and live in the house before you build a new one."

A quiet summer for Liverpool

On the account of those words, specifically what he told Sky Sports, it does seem as if the 52-year-old is happy with the players that he has at his disposal.

In terms of what he told ESPN, that seems as if finances may be an issue for the Merseysiders. The part where Klopp says "it's not our year for that" could easily point to the fact that last summer's £177m outlay has affected this year's window.

You may argue that all is well at Anfield. The Reds won the Champions League and amassed a club-record 97 Premier League points last term with the players they currently have.

However, as aforementioned, these Liverpool fans were particularly disappointed by recent news from the Liverpool Echo that there may be no new additions this summer, so Klopp's comments will be sure to leave them even more upset.

All the signs are pointing to this summer being a quiet one for Liverpool in regards to significant additions being made.
