Joe Allen has revealed that he is desperate to end his injury woes and establish himself as one of Liverpool’s key men.
The Welsh international only joined the Reds from Swansea last year, but has struggled for game time at Anfield.
After making a fine start to his career on Meresyside, Allen’s performances tailed off leading to extended periods on the bench.
It later emerged that a troublesome shoulder injury was a major factor in his below par displays, but after recovering from the problem the 23-year-old was stuck down by a hamstring issue.
However, he is now close to returning to full fitness ahead of next weekend’s meeting with Newcastle and is keen to make himself a regular starter under Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool:
“It has been a bit of a frustrating time – it always is when you’re injured,” he is quote by the Daily Star.
“When you’re injured, you almost feel useless because you can’t get out there and help the team.
“But I’m finally getting there. I’m almost there, basically. The plan is to get back into training, get a good few days leading up to the Newcastle game and hopefully I’ll be available for selection from there on.
“With the timing of the injury, I hadn’t really got into the swing of things. This is a fresh start of the season for me personally. It is great to come back with the team doing so well.”
Allen followed Rodgers to Liverpool from Swansea last summer and was seen as an integral part of the Northern Irishman’s plans.
However, he may now struggle for a starting spot due to the presence of Jordan Henderson, Steven Gerrard and Lucas Leiva.
