Misfiring Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli may make a sensational return to Italy in the January transfer window, despite having only signed for the Reds this summer.
According to reports, Serie A outfit Napoli – currently managed by ex-Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez – are prepared to submit a ‘major’ transfer offer to the Anfield club in order to lure Balotelli back to Italian football for the third time.
The Italian international has not enjoyed the best of starts to his Liverpool career, finding the net just two times since his £16 million switch from AC Milan in August, and in Napoli he may look to bring his Reds career to a premature end.
A mooted £10 million deal did the rounds earlier in the week, but new reports claim that Napoli are willing to offer the Premier League side an increased sum to sign the controversial forward in January, as they look to kick-start their own struggling campaign in Serie A.
Benitez is keen to see the former Manchester City man form a partnership with Gonzalo Higuain, and is confident that his former club will be prepared to offload.
