Liverpool monitoring highly-rated holding midfield star

Liverpool are interested in Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho and have been keeping a close eye on him through much of 2015, according to reports from the Liverpool Echo.

The Reds have endured a tricky start to the 2015/16 season, with back-to-back losses having hit the feelings of optimism at Anfield hard after an impressive opening three results.

One issue fans have largely voiced their dissent towards is the club’s holding midfield position, with Lucas having been welcomed back into Brendan Rodgers’ Xi despite being made available for transfer over the summer.

And reports from the Echo, citing O Jogo, claim that the club are looking at Carvalho and have been watching him for much of the year.

Scouts from Merseyside were in Lisbon on Sunday to view the clash with Rio Ave, and although the Portugal international didn’t play, the club are understood to have been keeping an eye on his progress.

Liverpool have had multiple deals with Sporting in recent years, with Tiago Ilori and Joao Teixeira having both moved to the club from the Estadio Jose Alvalade.
