Liverpool named as shock contenders to save goal machine from Chinese hell (not Teixeira)

Liverpool are surprise contenders for the signature of Jackson Martinez, who is keen to end his short spell in China, according to reports from Fichajes.

The Colombia international left Atletico Madrid to sign for Super League giants Guangzhou Evergrande earlier this year, and has since netted three goals in only five appearances for the table-topping outfit.

And even though he’s only been in the Far East for around six months, reports claim that the 29-year-old is eager to return to European football, with Liverpool an option.

It’s claimed that should Jurgen Klopp’s side offload both Mario Balotelli and Christian Benteke they may move for the burley South American, who would then compete with Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi and Danny Ings to be the focal point of the Merseysiders’ attack.

However, Liverpool are not alone in the race, with AC Milan and Porto also aligned with the forward, who developed a reputation as one of the most lethal marksmen around while with the Portuguese club between 2012 and 2015, notching 67 goals in 90 league showings.

Although Klopp’s side are named as candidates in the race, it’s hard to imagine the Anfield club moving for Martinez given that he’s one of the highest paid players on the planet.

The Kop side were linked with Alex Teixeira in January of this year, but missed out on the Brazilian attacker, who ended up signing for Chinese side Jiangsu Suning.
