Liverpool no longer keen on French ace

Lazio defender Modibo Diakite

Brendan Rodgers is keeping up his search for defenders ahead of the next Premier League season, although the French centre-back Modibo Diakite is no longer a target for Liverpool.

Another Italian side – not revealed – have joined Napoli on the list of clubs interested in the Lazio player, claims Talksport.

The French defender’s agent Ulisse Savini has confirmed to be in talks regarding the player’s future, who continues to be linked with a Serie A move, where he has played since 2006.

“I’ll meet with Napoli, as I will with other clubs who are interested in Diakite. It [Napoli] is a fascinating environment and their interest makes us proud. Let us just wait and see what happens”.

“In Italy, though, there is a surprise side who hadn’t made a move up until this moment. I think I’ll meet with these clubs by the end of next week.”, the defender’s representative said to La Lazio Siamo Noi.

Liverpool have been keeping track of Diakite’s progress, who seems to be enjoying this season providing great defensive stability that he has lacked in previous years at the Rome based club.

The Reds will continue their search for new defenders to cover the gap Jamie Carragher will leave, as well as other players that Brendan Rodgers may look to move on.
