Liverpool and Chelsea have been put on alert amidst a suggestion that Real Madrid could sell Marco Asensio, according to Marca via The Mirror.

What's the word?

Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool have caught the eye this season by standing undefeated in their opening nine matches and reports suggest there is a chance of a deal that would set the Premier League alight in January.

According to Marca via The MirrorReal Madrid are prepared to sell Marco Asensio if his asking price of £100m is met in January and that news has led to Liverpool, along with Chelsea, being placed on alert ahead of the mid-season window.

Asensio was tipped to shine following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer but has struggled for form in Real's woeful start to the season and his future is up in the air with the Spanish giants eyeing major additions of their own.

Should Liverpool move?

Signing Asensio would be a major statement of intent to the rest of the Premier League and Europe, while it would be an addition that would provide a further boost to Jurgen Klopp's embarrassment of riches in the attacking third.

Capable of playing as an attacking midfielder or in a wide role, Asensio's versatility would be extremely valuable for the Reds as they look to fight on all fronts but his huge asking price, as well as the likelihood of facing competition from their rivals in the hunt for his services, make this deal difficult to predict.

On top of this, Julen Lopetegui's uncertain future in the Spanish capital suggests a managerial change is on the cards soon and this could provide Asensio with a new lease of life. However, Klopp must be prepared to go all-out if his services do become available.
