Liverpool on verge of beating Arsenal to Premier League winner

Liverpool are closing in on a stunning deal for Manchester City’s James Milner, with reports from The Metro claiming that the Premier League winner is ready to join the Reds when his current contract expires.

The England international – who has been a part of the Sky Blues’ two title triumphs in the last three seasons – is set to be a free agent in around three months’ time, and is yet to agree an extension to his deal at the Etihad Stadium.

This state of limbo had lured in Arsenal, but Liverpool are now understood to be close to sealing the dependable midfielder’s arrival.

Reports suggest that a pre-contract deal has be all but agreed, even though his £120,000-per-week salary demands were an initial issue for the Merseysiders.

Milner, 29, is a player Brendan Rodgers is thought to be a big admirer of, and with Steven Gerrard set to leave to join LA Galaxy this summer he could fill the void left by the departing skipper.
