Liverpool plan stunning £50m striker move to save season

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is plotting a staggering £50m offer for Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema as he plots to save the Reds’ ailing season, according to reports from the Daily Star.

From taking the Premier League title race to the last day of 2013/14, the Merseysiders’ form has nosedived, with the sale of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge’s injury worries having contributed to their current spot in the bottom half of the division with almost half the campaign gone.

Summer additions Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert have failed to make a serious impact so far, which has prompted rumours that the Anfield giants are keen to add another forward in January.

Benzema was a target during the last window, but despite claims that the Frenchman was not interested in the move, Rodgers is ready to offer as much as £50m to land the Les Bleus ace.

Real are rumoured to be looking to offload their marksman to make room for Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero and Marco Reus of Dortmund, and are understood to be ready to accept big offers.

This may edge the 26-year-old towards the Bernabeu exit door, with a headline grabbing transfer possessing the potential to appeal to him.
