Liverpool plot move for Ligue 1 ace

Kevin Gameiro

Liverpool are ready to make a bid for Paris St Germain striker Kevin Gameiro, according to the Daily Star.

The Frenchman has been linked with a move to Anfield going as far back as the January transfer window, and Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers considers now the right time to pounce, with PSG having just announced the £55million signing of Edison Cavani.

But according to Andalusian newspaper Eldesmarque, the Reds face a battle to sign the 26-year-old from La Liga outfit Sevilla.

The Spanish side had hoped to tie up a deal for the forward last week as they are desperatley seeking to find a replacement for Alvaro Negredo who has just joined their Premier League rivals Manchester City.

They are now concerned their failure to reach an agreement with PSG could see them punished following Liverpool’s renewed interest.

The news Brendan Rodgers is looking to bring in another striker will cast further doubt over the future of Luis Suarez.

Rodgers has already signed a frontman in the form of Iago Aspas this summer, while fellow new signing Luis Alberto is also capable of playing as a striker. The Reds already have Fabio Borini and Daniel Sturridge at the club alongside Suarez, so the indications are that Gameiro would be bought in as a replacement for the outgoing striker.

The Uruguayan’s future has been the subject of daily speculation at Anfield, with Arsenal and Real Madrid the two main contenders for his signature at present.
