Liverpool plot move to steal talented youngster

Barcelona defender Martin MontoyaLiverpool are planning to offer Barcelona defender Martin Montoya a pre-contract deal to move to Anfield at the end of the season, according to reports from talkSPORT.

The Spanish youngster’s future with the La Liga giants has been the subject of much doubt for some time, alerting the Reds as well as Premier League rivals Arsenal.

Montoya’s current deal at the Nou Camp expires next year, and he is holding off on penning an extension until he receives some guarantees of future playing time.

Such promises from Barca look to be uncertain, with Brazilian international Dani Alves firmly established as one of the club’s star men.

Liverpool are ready to offer the 22-year-old an alternative option and are keen to snap him up on a free transfer.

Montoya is able to discuss a deal with any side outside of Spain this winter before moving for no fee once his contract has run down.

Brendan Rodgers was thought to be considering a cut-price formal offer in January, but is now open to snapping up the starlet for nothing instead.

Arsenal may rival the Merseysiders, while Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich have also been linked with a move.

Could Martin Montoya develop into a star at Liverpool?
